About Us

About Monticello Main Street

Monticello Main Street, Inc. is a nonprofit organization founded in 1996 by concerned local volunteers dedicated to historic preservation and to strengthening our community's economic growth. The main area of concentration is in the downtown business district, and the extended fringe area of Monticello's downtown.

Monticello Main Street also plans events throughout the year like the May Market in May, and the Farmer's Market from June through October, the Monticello Celebration in September, and the November Holiday House Walk.

Mission

"To strengthen the vitality of Monticello's Downtown by promoting civic pride, encouraging growth, and preserving and improving community involvement and resources."

The Main Street Approach

The Main Street approach is the most efficient and cost-effective approach to preserving the community's identity, social character, and heritage and enhances its viability and quality of life. It gives our community a competitive edge in attracting the kind of quality growth and development we need and seek. It improves business and life in the downtown and affects business throughout the town.

Main Street Organization

Monticello Main Street is not only recognized as an Illinois Main Street Community, but also has the honor of being designated a National Main Street Community. We are also a member of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Monticello Main Street believes that a healthy central downtown area adds to the overall prosperity of the community. Downtown becomes not just a purchasing point--it becomes much more. The downtown becomes a happening. A wonderful place in which to live, dine, experience the arts, use service providers, socialize, shop, relax and just sit a spell. Your downtown Monticello experience is further enhanced by the beautiful streetscape project that was completed in 2001.

Monticello Main Street strives to make Monticello the number one choice for residents, businesses and visitors. We are a diverse group, and Monticello Main Street welcomes new members. We also extend grateful appreciation to our volunteers, who have made our program such a success!
