Out of the Blue

A business new to Monticello in May of 2006 is "Out of the Blue" located at 116 East Main Street. Owner, Ruthanne Burgard, developed an interest in her featured product, Polish pottery, while living in Germany.

"Out of the Blue" sells Polish pottery of the highest quality called Category 1. It is collectable, yet sturdy enough for everyday use. Polish pottery is made by hand and hand painted using a sponge-stamping technique. It is then glazed to bring out its beauty and to develop its remarkable chip resistance. It is free of harmful substances such as lead, and can be used in the oven, microwave, freezer, refrigerator, and dishwasher. Polish pottery is as beautiful as it is functional, and wonderful for both special occasions and every day use.

Polish pottery originated as a folk art in the early 1800's. Today, in one small village in Poland, Boleslawiec, skilled artisans still individually handcraft each piece. Signature pieces (UNIKAT) are specially signed by the artist on the bottom of each piece.

Ruthanne likes to be personally available to her customers to answer any questions.
